Coming soon…

I’m changing the way I do family photography.

My suppliers costs have increased year on year and have just increased again by a more substantial amount (understandably with the rise in inflation and the rising cost of just about everything).

I haven’t raised my family photography pricing for 5 years but I still get comments from potential clients that the products are expensive so I can’t justify raising my prices when I’m told I’m too expensive already. I’ve been allowing my income from wedding photography to supplement my family photography but I have to now put my head over my heart and rethink the way I do things.

I will be moving over to all inclusive digital packages and online galleries but the main change is that I’ll be focusing on documentary family photography, rather than lifestyle. I’ve always been an advocate for printed products and believe that everybody should have their family photographs printed and hung up on their walls, so you still have the option to buy printed products through the online gallery, but the sessions will all include digitals.

What’s the difference between documentary and lifestyle family photography?

Documentary photography is completely raw and honest. It’s about documenting family life as it is. Breakfast time, story time, the cuddles and the struggles, everything that will give you nostalgia when you look back on the images and remind you of how family life really was for you. The weather doesn’t have to be perfect, or even good at all, there’s no chasing sunsets or rising at 5am for the perfect soft morning light. What happens happens and will be documented. These photographs with time will be so much more special to you than pretty lifestyle shots. They will take you back.

Why am I making this move?

Things change and I’ve realised that lifestyle photography isn’t for me anymore. The time you have to meet for the best light is often either too early in the morning (sunrise) or too late in the evening (sunset) for young children so only really works in late autumn and winter. The weather let me down so many times, I was constantly rearranging sessions because the conditions weren’t perfect. It can be hard to make it work. So I’m now focusing on what I’m passionate about, which is documenting rather than fabricating.

You don’t have to pose. You don’t have to get dressed up. All you have to do is to be you.

I will be adding full pricing here soon.
